What did you find?

As I was snapping pictures of the latest Mystery Candy manifestation,
I suddenly felt a presence close by, watching me intently. I stood up and turned to find a pleasant, middle-aged woman looking at me, noticeably puzzled.

Woman: “What’s so special down there that you’re looking at?”

Me: “It’s this candy. It’s weird. It just appears almost every day, out of nowhere.”

Woman: “Oh, it’s probably just from a restaurant. I’ve seen people do that. They grab a handful of those mints and walk out, then just toss them out on the sidewalk. When I used to live…”

Her words rambled on and I thought to myself, “But I know this candy is special. Besides, it’s not only mint. You’re wrong.”

Me: “That’s certainly a possibility, thanks. Have a great day!”

The light changed to green and she briskly walked across the street. I convinced myself she thought I was crazy as I sent my new photos into cyberspace. Luckily, the bus pulled up and I hopped on.

During my ride, I not only reassured myself that I’m not really that crazy, I also pondered how the candy itself is nothing particularly remarkable. It’s the experience of finding it and noticing it that is. Life occasionally throws something your way that’s completely unexpected. When it’s out of the mundane, daily grind, you have to pay attention. Whether you’re staring at pieces of candy on the ground, or watching your own backyard resident squirrel, it’s appreciating the intrigue and mystery that keeps things fascinating.

Keep your eyes open, you never know what you might see.
