A candy song

I’m not about to make judgments, so whether you do or don’t is simply up to you.

For those making hardcore Lent sacrifices by giving up sweets, I wanted to offer you something special to tide you over.

I present...

Candy on the ground, candy on the ground
Lookin' like a fool throwin candy on the ground
With the wrapper in your hand
candy discarded
Eatin' throwin'
Candy on the ground
(by Jennifer)

Check back again soon. I don’t think reading about sweet stuff is a violation. Then again, I’ve been called a heathen on more than one occasion.

Happy Fat Tuesday!

The results are in!

It's time to wrap up the sweet voting day survey. It appears that all 5 of my followers have spoken and the results* are astounding.

I declare Starlight Mint the survey winner with 80% of the votes, and Orange running a close second with 20%.

The week’s true winner is the red (a.k.a. "Cinnamon Disk") candy, with a fresh appearance on Thursday morning (welcome back!). According to official sources at the scene, we’re in for at least another 6 weeks of mystery candy.

Stay tuned…

*This survey is not at all scientific and has absolutely nothing to do with anything in particular.  Thanks for playing along.

A Green Monday

Today's feel-good green Monday note: Saturday's Bake Sale for Haiti brought in $1700. Every cent is going directly to Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam to help Haiti.

How's that for sweet?

A little bit of sweet will do you good

I wanted to pause from our usual mystery to bring you a taste of some not-so-mysterious sweets.

Some local Chicago folks with yelp.com have organized a bake sale to benefit those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. In a short amount of time, so many people and businesses have come together to help with the cause. Even though there are a lot of organizations and benefits going on everywhere, it warms my heart to be connected to this community and see a movement grow out of a simple idea and a few words.

The bake sale is on Saturday, January 23 at Medici on 57th (1327 E 57th St, Chicago, IL). If you’re in the area, please drop in and buy plenty of goodies. All proceeds are going to Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam. You may even luck out and see yours truly there with a contribution or two. For more information or for details on how you can help, follow this link: A Bake Sale for Haiti.

Can’t make it or a bake sale isn’t up your alley? Whatever you do, just do something.  Just to name a few:
We can all use a bit of sweet in our lives.  Sometimes we can discover it by merely doing some good for someone else.  There's no mystery in that.

We now return you back to your regularly scheduled Project Mystery Candy.

The red loner

Today's lone red candy got me thinking about how empty the sidewalk has felt recently.

Each day since my last post, I’ve gone out only to find snow, ice, or slush. Winter in Chicago is disappointing enough without missing the colorful pieces of sunshine on the ground. I left my place, at first surprised at the temperature outside, thinking that I might actually need an umbrella. Weather thoughts turned elsewhere as I hurried to the bus stop with a glimmer of hope inside...

I'm back.

Love,

The Red Mystery Candy

Twenty what?

Here it is Wednesday already and I meant to start off the week with a 2010 greeting. Yup, it’s been one of those weeks already.

Without further delay, a bit of sweet to finish off the rest of your week.  Monday brought quite the welcome surprise in the New Year...

Happy 2010.

Love,

The Red Mystery Candy
